Trisha Romance Life as an artist began at a very early age. The drive to capture her immediate surroundings and find inspiration in everyday events of life can be traced to when she was only five years old. This vision and excitement for life continues to be the creative force behind her celebrated work today.

"I thank God continually for the simple moments in life...they feed my soul and forever renew my inspirations", says Trisha Romance.

Trisha Romance was born in Western New York and moved to Canada in 1969 to attend Sheridan College in Oakville, where she received a degree in design and illustration. She now lives in Niagara-on-the Lake with her family, who have become the loving focus of her many paintings in watercolour.

The popularity of Trisha Romance prints continue to grow, exceeding her ability to supply the demand. Since 1980, limited edition reproductions from the originals have allowed collectors to enjoy her artwork worldwide.

Before ever being married or having children, this is what I imagined Christmas Eve would be...and so I painted "Christmas Elves". Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would one day be just like this!

Our farmhouse was simple and yet cozy with our little blonde haired Nathan always wanting to fall asleep in Mommy and Daddy's bed on Christmas Eve. We tried to break this habit by saying - you must sleep in your own bed or the elves won't come. But he replied with confidence - don't worry Mommy they will find me.

Often I would send Whitney out into the garden to pick flowers for the dinner table. Although she was very adept with scissors I nonetheless prayed that such trips into the garden would be accident free! As a mother I often relied on Psalm 91, verse 11...

For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways".

Whitney seemed to think that the bigger the bouquet, the bigger my smile and hug would be, and indeed she was right! Happily and feverishly she would clip away, but because she was such an observant little one, just about anything would catch her eye and cause her to ponder. Sometimes the garden statuary, especially the garden angels, seemed to make flower picking a time of great lingering. It is no wonder then, that most of her wonderful drawings were of angels!

If angels are God's "messengers" then truly our Whitney was a great "listener". With words unspoken, some inward conversation always seemed to ensue. And if angels are also "guardians" then Psalm 91, verse 11 calmed me and yes, always brought a smile to my face!

Throughout my travels in Europe I envied the life of shepherds who protected and cared for their wayward flocks. Often these sheep would end up in my sketches as I enjoyed my hermitage. Many time I too would get lost, as I skied through the forests of Sweden. Yet, I never felt alone, for I had The Shepherd of Psalm 23 to guide me.

In painting all that there was to discover in the back lanes of Cabbagetown, I decided to use a different medium, acrylic.

Away from the mainstreet it is quiet there, making one forget the bustle of the big city.
I began to understand why Albert Frank loved to paint these backyards so hidden by their distinguished facades.

As the sun set on our conservatory garden, it seemed to gild the last days of summer with a warmth that truly defied the coming of winter.

Even as I sketched this scene under the whispering pines, all creatures great and small came out for a visit. I felt a profound adoration for that golden moment.

Blessed summer - could this be my favorite season after all? I soon concluded that is was - for now!

Until a blanket of snow covers our farm, until sweet smoke curls from our chimney and the sound of jingle bells echo from our pony's sleigh.

Until then, I am perfectly content believing once again, "to everything there is a season."

From our dining room window at the farm, the rustic swing was always in full view. It became a place for lullabies, telling stories, watching chestnuts grow, waiting for Daddy to come down the lane. When winter came, the bitter winds would make it sway, as if beckoning us to come for a ride. But, when the still of evening crept in, and all was calm, it seemed quite content to wait "Till Next Season".
